Tapos kunwari meron kaming pinag-iisipan o alanganin [kami] or parang hindi kami makapag-decide, parang sinasabi [namin] palagi, ‘Go mo lang. Just say yes!’”

Last October 18, 2019, Kapuso prized star and QCinema International Film Festival 2019 best actress Janine Gutierrez adds businesswoman to her many achievements as she opened her very first venture, the I Do Nails Nail Salon and Spa franchise located at the 3rd level of the Ayala Malls The 30th in Pasig.

Asked why she chose a nail business among the many choices, she says: “No’ng college [ako], ’yong bestfriend ko nagpapa-manicure siya para maging happy siya. Pero ako, ‘Totoo ba?’ Hanggang sa naintindihan ko,” Janine, while giggling, tells pikapika.ph.Ta’s naging regular na rin ako nagpapa-nails. More so no’ng artista na ako. Kasi everytime na may shoot, minsan magre-request pa sila ng, ‘Can we do nails like this, eto po ’yong pegs, ganyan. It has become a part of my life is why...kaya I really wanted to choose a business na interesado ako talaga at ginagamit ko din talaga.”

Besides, she says she has been endorsing the salon since it started with its first branch because the owner, Monica Maceda, has been her friend since grade school. “Lalayo pa ba ako?” Thus, Janine—along with her high school besties Patricia de Leon and Cristina Santiago—pulled their resources together to get the franchise of the I Do Nails’s 7th branch.

Janine says her mom, actress Lotlot de Leon, is the happiest for her regarding her new endeavor.

Pero luckily, with this it’s a franchise tapos ’yong owner has been my friend since grade school pa. Actually ini-endorse ko itong [I do] Nail Salon eversince she [the owner] opened her first branch.”

Janine says she frequents the Ayala Malls The 30th thus, she’s extra happy that she’s able to get a space here for her I Do Nails branch.

Congrats, Janine and friends!

Janine is hoping to get their ROI (return of investment) in a year.
“Sana po...or a year-and-a-half,” she laughs. It’s a good thing they got a good deal with the mall management.
“Saka itong mall na ito [Ayala Malls The 30th] pinupuntahan ko din talaga ito,” she adds. “Mas’werte din for me nakahanap kami ng p’westo. Actually, ang tagal ko nang naghahanap ng p’westo. ’Yon pala ’yong mahirap, ’yong maka-hanap ka ng tamang location, ganyan. So, noong sinabi na meron dito, parang after a few weeks, sige game na. Nag-just say yes ulit kami.. Hahaha! Baka ito na ’yong sign na i-push namin.”

Janine says they do beyond nails in I Do Nails. “Mani, pedi, [eye] lashes, nail art, gel extension [nails], foot spa, massage, waxing... lahat! So, ’yon binubuo pa namin ’yong team. So naghahanap pa kami ng konting girls [for the work force]. Kaya kung may kilala kayo...hahaha!”
(Check her nails, guys!)

Asked what her inputs were in terms of the salon look and design, the giggly Janine says: “Oh my God! Ano parang ako ang bumili ng lahat [ng gamit]... eto no’ng isang araw binili ko,” she says pointing to the throw pillows.
“Ito pinagawa ko po,” pointing this time to the “Just say yes” signage.
“Mas’werte [ako] kasi si Teddy Manuel, ’yong event organizer, mi-nessage ko na kasi I really wanted an art or parang piece here [sa wall]... something cute lang na Instagrammable. Alam ko si Teddy Manuel—kasi nakapunta na ako sa madaming weddings na ginawa niya—nakikita ko na palaging may tropical-tropical theme. He was so nice. He helped us do this. ’Yon tapos ano pa? ’Yong wallpaper [by the entrance], galing sa bahay ko. Baka naaalala ninyo pa?  Hahaha! Natira siya, so nilagay namin dito. Tapos inikot nalang namin sa tropical design. Hahaha!”

For solo or mani/pedicure parties, you may call: 737-9025. That’s celebrity volleyball player Michelle Gumabao, by the way, having mani-and-pedi combo during the opening day.

Janine—here with her business partners and their families—says her business partners are just as busy with their respective jobs, thus, is admittedly unsure yet how to run the whole business side of things.
“’Yong isa nagwo-work sa Globe [Telecomms], ’yong isa sa Nestle, ako sa GMA,” laughs Janine again. “So, parang inisip namin, kung tatlo kami, mas madi-divide namin [ang time], mas madali since we have super full days din... pero ’yon nga, e, actually hindi pa namin nalalatag nang super ayos [ang hatian ng schedules namin sa salon]. Pero we’re saying s’werte na nga lang na friends kami since bata kasi ang dali na mag-usap.”
She’s hoping though that being business partners won’t ruin their friendship in the future, just like what happened to others.
“’Yon nga, e, hindi naman. We’ll see.  Hahaha!  Charot!  Hahaha! Hindi naman. Gusto nga namin gumawa ng kontrata na bawal mag-away.  Hahaha!  Pero hopefully maging maayos ang partnership namin.”

Some of Janine’s special guests that day include (1) her dad Monching Gutierrez; (2) her cousin Ara Dabao (left, daughter of Ricky Davao and Jackie Lou Blanco) and her younger sister Maxine Gutierrez; (3) her mom Lotlot de Leon, who came with husband Fadi El Soury (not in photo); and (4) fashion mentor: photographer
