The streaming giant Netflix acquired worldwide rights to Philippine action film Maria, topbilled by Cristine Reyes and directed by Pedring Lopez, last April.
Maria tells the story of a former female assassin who refused to complete her mission in order to live a normal life but later found herself as the target of the cartel she used to work for.
Not only local critics are raving about the film but also the global viewers particularly in UK as it lands on Netflix’s fourth spot for the most-watched non-English language titles of the week in UK, according to Deadline—a Hollywood entertainment website.
The film The Rain grabbed the no.1 spot, while The 12th Man and Undercover ranked second and third respectively.
The 30-year-old actress announced the good news on IG last night.
Maria is available for streaming since May 17. It also stars Ivan Padilla, KC Montero, Guji Lorenzana, Jennifer Lee, Andrea del Rosario, Cindy Miranda, Freddie Webb, and Ronnie Lazaro.
It is an addition to the Filipino film roster on the streaming platform which include Anne Curtis’s BuyBust and Aurora and ABS CBN’s top rating TV series Ang Probinsyano starring Coco Martin.
