According kay Tala The Film Concert director na si Paul Basinillo—na eksklusibong naka-tsikahan ng pikapika.ph via Zoom— as early as August last year pa sila nagsimulang mag-meeting about Tala, which makes the project six months in the making.

“Si Boss Vic [del Rosario] asked me to ano come up with an idea for a concert with Sarah,” panimulang k’wento ni Direk Paul.

Kaya kahit madugo, Sarah said yes lalo pa’t this year marks her 18th anniversary as a multi-media and multi-faceted artist.

Ani Direk Paul, na katrabaho na ni Sarah since she was fourteen sa mga TVCs and other projects, maganda rin daw ang timing ni Sarah sa pag-o-online concert dahil tila uhaw nga ang mga fans sa kanya.

“’Yong last concert niya kay Regine [Velasquez] 2019 diba? E, ano ’yon dalawa sila. Hindi siya topbilled na solo act. So, I think ’yong hinanap ng tao...sa This I5 Me solo act siya doon, Three or four years ago yata. Parang ganu’n. So, matagal na.

(Direk Paul is referring to the Unified  Valentine concert of Sarah and Regine Velasquez which was staged in February 2020; while This I5 Me, was staged in April 2018.)

Ever since This I5 Me daw, ani Direk Paul, ay involved at very hands-on na si Sarah creatively sa mga projects niya.

“Si Sarah, starting with This I5 Me, naging parang ano na siya artist na siya ... dati kasi parang technically ang relationship ng producer and artist is actually mag-execute ka nu’ng script, konsepto, palabas... pero limited ’yong relationship mo when it comes to inputs. Pero recently for the past three or four years, ano na siya, naging artist na si Sarah. Maybe because madami na siyang na-achieve, e....na-achieve na niya lahat. Siguro ito naman ang focus niya, trying to incorporate her creative juices. So, when it comes to the execution si Sarah very hands-on yan.”

“So, ayaw niyang gumawa ng same song na ginawa na niya from previous show or concert. Gusto niya bago especially pag ganitong major concert? Gusto niya bago palagi. So, doon kami usually tumatagal sa song selection. Kasi siya ’yong talagang pumipili. Kami, we can just recommend.”

Kung may uulitin man daw sila, like in the case of Tala the song, bilang ito ang title ng concert, paniguradong ibang-iba ang execution sa nakita na before.

Parang ganu’n

We asked Direk Paul if totoo bang pinag-stunt nila, for the first time, si SG?

“Oo, meron siyang ginawang kakaiba dito...I dont want to preempt kasi gusto namin makita ito ng audience first time,” pambibitin ni Direk Paul.

I think [this is] one of the first time na gumawa siya ng stunt talaga na may danger.”

Ang “Tala,” the song, was co-written by Nica del Rosario and Emmanuel Sambayan. Naging single ito sa 2015 album ni Sarah na The Great Unknown and became the most-played OPM song in 2016. By 2019, it gained a new level of popularity nang mauso ang Tala Dance Challenge sa social media—dahilan para ang music video ni Sarah para dito ay magtala ng 170 million views on YouTube alone!

Now, as a homage to the song and Sarah’s flawless rendition of it, comes Tala The Film Concert, a one-night only engagement na exclusive na mapapanood on ktx.ph on March 27, 2021.

As mentioned, it’s directed by Paul Basinillo with musical direction by Louie Ocampo, art direction by Georcelle Dapat-Sy, and styling by Bang Pineda.
