Actress Ruby Ruiz has bagged another Best Actress award, this time internationally as she was honored for her role in the 2019 Cinemalaya Film Festival entry Iska in this year's Harlem International Film Festival in New York.
It was the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and film production company Firestarters Production, Inc. who made the announcement on their respective Facebook pages, congratulating the actress for an amazing feat.
The film, directed by Theodore Boborol, features Ruiz playing a devoted yet penniless grandmother who takes care of her autistic child, losing everything in the process.
For her role, Ruiz took home the Best Actress trophy in the awards night of the 2019 Cinemalaya Film Festival.
It was not her first award under Cinemalaya, though. Ruiz also won the award for Best Supporting Actress in the 2013 edition of the film festival, appearing in film entry Ekstra starring Vilma Santos.
