Filipino horror film Deleter, almost a year after its release at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2022, continues to reap accolades both here and abroad.

Deleter recently took home the Best Scare Award at this year’s Grimmfest film festival held in Manchester, United Kingdom.

In its official website, Grimmfest jurors said they were impressed by the atmosphere and mood brought about by the Mikhail Red film throughout its duration.

“Always a hotly contested category as jurors debate what precisely constitutes a ‘scare’ and whether to select a traditional ‘jump scare’ or something more… intangible. In the case of DELETER, what impressed and stayed with the jury, rather than any one moment, was the eerie, unsettling mood and atmosphere of the film as a whole,” they said.

Deleter director Mikhail Red and lead star Nadine Lustre took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the film’s international commendation.

The movie follows Lyra (Lustre), a worker at a shadowy online content moderation office where employees, known as deleters, are tasked with the process of filtering graphic uploads from reaching social media platforms.

It was an entry at the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival, which bagged several awards during the local film festival’s Gabi Ng Parangal, including Best Picture, Best Director for Red, and Best Actress for Lustre.

Apart from Grimmfest’s Best Scare Award, Deleter was given another recent recognition, this time locally, as Lustre was recently nominated at the 46th Gawad Urian Awards’ Best Actress category for her performance in the film.

Grimmfest is an “independent genre film festival, dedicated and committed to showcasing great movies by both new and established filmmakers from the world of genre cinema.” They feature films that focus on horror, cult, extreme fantasy, and sci-fi.
