The upcoming dance film Indak featuring Sam Concepcion and Nadine Lustre is the feature film debut of rising star Race Matias, the son of actor and former Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and Eloisa Matias.
He made his presence known last night at the press conference for the Paul Basinillo film with other cast members, along with Sam, Nadine, and other supporting cast members like It’s Showtime Hashtags member Vitto Marquez and former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Christian Morones.
In a separate interview with the press including pikapika.ph, he narrated how it was like working with Nadine Lustre in his debut film.
“She’s great,” the New York Film Academy graduate said. “She’s a lovely person to work [and] to hang out with. Of course, at first, medyo na-i-intimidate ako sa kanya kasi it’s Nadine Lustre. You go to any street in the Philippines, mukha niya ‘yong makikita mo.”
He recalled the first day on the set when he was seated right across the table from Nadine as a humbling experience. He then proceeds to recall his first impression of the Gawad Urian Best Actress during their first meeting.
“Akala ko talaga mataray siya,” Race admits. “I’m not gonna lie, I was very scared of her the first time. As the production went on and I got to know the cast and crew better, I realized that ‘Wow. I must be stupid to assume that a person this humble and this selfless would be mataray.’ It just changed my perspective, meeting people as a whole. She’s a great person, and I hope to God one day that I get to work with her again.”
Now, Race considers her a role model, not just for himself but for all actors.
“She takes her craft with 200% dedication,” he explains. “She goes way beyond what's required of her. She’s inspiring. She makes me want to do better in what I’m doing. [...] You can’t help but admire her.”
