Critically-acclaimed dark comedy Parasite has arrived in the Philippines!
Distributed by Viva International Pictures and MVP Entertainment, the film, who received the highest distinction at the Cannes Film Festival last May 2019, follows Kim Ki-taek and his family who struggles to make ends meet by living in a shabby apartment and folding pizza boxes. Ki-taek’s son Ki-woo, then, meets his friend Min who persuades him to become an English tutor for a child from a wealthy family. Since then, their family takes interest in the wealth of the affluent Parks family by entering their lives as would-be house workers. Things all go well until they all get caught up in an unexpected incident.
Director Bong Joon-ho brings the topics of social status, aspiration, patriarchy, and materialism all in one dark comedy film. It stars Song Ka-ho, Jang Hye-jin, Choi Woo-sik, and Park So-dam as a dysfunctional family who aspires to live an affordable lifestyle. The film has been well-panned by film critics, receiving various awards from film festivals and award-winning bodies, including Best Film at the Sydney Film Festival and Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Chunsa Film Art Awards.
The Korean comedy premieres today, August 14, exclusively in SM Cinemas nationwide. Watch it the full trailer right here:
