Upon its nationwide theatrical release yesterday, September 25, #Jowable has proven itself worthy with its overnight success by grossing 6 million pesos!
The film marks the full-length directorial debut of Darryl Yap, whose short-yet-relatable films on the VinCentiments page on Facebook suddenly boomed and became viral last August 2018.
#Jowable, a comedy film that focuses on the woes of singlehood, stars Kim Molina as Elsa Mangahas, a girl who constantly rants about her lack of romantic love and sexual satisfaction in life, seeking advice from everywhere and everyone.
As September 25 came, people were already lining up in their local theatres to show their interest and support towards the Darryl Yap film. And after viewing the film, netizens were quickly posting their positive reviews about the film, showering it with praises.
The audience is particularly drawn to Direk Darryl’s unique take on comedy and the realness of the material; while some singled out the
ensemble acting prowess. Still, a lot made a special mention to Kim Molina’s powerful “tumatatak” portrayal of Elsa.
Talent manager-television host Ogie Diaz, actor-director John Lapus, and local YouTube star Lloyd Cafe Cadena have also given their honest praises over the Kim Molina-led flick.
Acclaimed screenwriter Ricky Lee also showed his support for #Jowable. He is direk Darryl’s number one inspiration in screenwriting.
But it’s Kim’s boyfriend, Jerald Napoles, who also played a special part in the movie, that puts it best for Kim as he said in his IG post, that his girlfriend “has arrived.”
Some theatres who premiered #Jowable, such as SM Mall of Asia and Glorietta had sold-out seats, as seen on Viva Films’ update post, showing how much fans are flocking to see the comedy film!
That’s not all, the theme song of the movie #Jowable sung by lead star Molina herself, is also part of the Viral 50 Philippines playlist on Spotify, grabbing the 13th spot.
And now, after an overnight box office success, Viva Films recently announced that from 200 cinemas, the movie is now showing in 220 cinemas nationwide. We smell a month-long success for this viral-video-turned-feature-film!
Yesterday was a certified #Jowable day as it wasn’t just a box-office success, but a trending viral topic as well.
#Jowable continues to rock local cinemas. Don’t be left behind. Today is your chance to get to know—and fall in love with—Elsa Mangahas.
