Jed Madela has been vocal about his admiration for the music of Korean pop group BTS.
In his recent vlogs on YouTube, he has expressed being part of the BTS fandom by covering their songs and featuring their merchandise.
All was going well until a basher responded to the singer-host’s tweet last Friday, October 30, and called him a “clout chaser.”
According to slanglang.net, a clout chaser is someone “who is associating themselves with a trend or a person, in hopes of gaining more popularity themselves.”
Jed took a screenshot of the basher’s tweet and expressed his sadness towards what the basher said.
“I am sad that there are people like this,” he said. “Okay lang naman kung di nyo ako i-follow... I can be a fanboy on my own and be friends to those who want to be friends with me. Not forcing anyone.”
Netizens, specifically fellow BTS fans, rallied behind Jed and told him to simply ignore the basher and continue his love and enthusiasm for the K-pop sensations.
Sir, Jed. I have been worrying that this incident will happen and it did 🥺! This doesn't only happen to you. It happens to all those who love Tae 🥺. Please stay unbothered and follow your heart. We know your heart and will be by your side. Borahae 💜 pic.twitter.com/xXGdNEKlsg— Taeyeontannie 💜 SN¹¹⁷ IC⁸⁹ Sing³⁷ Stig⁴² (@Taeyeontannie1) October 29, 2020

This is the first time I have seen fans of a group that hate on one member whose statements they use to hate on people that like him or dare to appreciate him and BullY and harrass them. I understand the insecurity that he gets so much love, its not tae's fault he is lovable tho! pic.twitter.com/R9hlqQeJay— Adyasha¹ᴰ₁₁₇◟̽◞̽🍓 (@AdyaSHa_1701) October 29, 2020
Singer-actress Lea Salonga replied to Jed’s tweet and questioned the motive behind the basher’s hateful comment while giving Jed some words of advice.
“So wait lang... hindi ka nanggagamit ng kahit sino, wala kang inaabala, nananahimik ka lang, tapos tinawag kang ganyan? Those who mind DO NOT MATTER, and those who matter do not mind. Let no one take away your joy. Carry on.” she said.

Jed, in a separate tweet, thanked the BTS fans, collectively known as the Army, for spreading words of love towards him, despite the basher’s hateful tweet.
“Thank you, Army. Alam nyo kasi, tao lang din kami na nasasaktan pag sinasabihan ng masasakit at masasama. Haaaay... I'll be okay. Playing their music now…”
In another tweet, he expressed admiration for Salonga’s advice by replying to her with three purple heart emojis.
