HBO’s Succession and Pop TV’s Schitt’s Creek dominate the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the yearly big television industry event had no red carpet and held in a nearly empty Staples Center in Los Angeles due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 100 celebrities monitored the awards night from the safety of their homes. Winners had their trophies delivered at their doorstep.

HBO’s Succession and Pop TV’s Schitt’s Creek are the big winners in this year’s live virtual ceremonies of the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

Succession won 4 Emmys including Outstanding Drama Series while Schitt’s Creek won a record 7 Emmys including Best Comedy Series.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the yearly big television industry event had no red carpet and held in a nearly empty Staples Center in Los Angeles due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Nominees are presented by few live guests (observing health protocols) like Jennifer Aniston, Tracy Ellis Ross, Jason Sudeikis, Laverne Cox, Randall Park, Anthony Anderson, Sterling K. Brown, Yara Shadiri and Jason Bateman. 

Other nominees were presented by frontliners and essential health workers from various locations in the US.

More than 100 celebrities monitored the awards night from the safety of their homes. Winners had their trophies delivered at their doorstep. 

The recipient of this year’s Governors Award was actor-producer-philantropist Tyler Perry who accepted his award live.

Outstanding lead actress in a limited series or a movie: Regina King, Watchmen
