It was yesterday, August 19, when the Philippines weeped for the loss of former Department of Environment and Natural Resourses (DENR) secretary Gina Lopez, who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
Many celebrities took to their social media accounts to remember the late environmental champion, who was known for her work on the rehabilitation of the Pasig River and La Mesa watershed and the shutdown of numerous mining operations violating environmental laws.
One of these people who payed homage to Gina was Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano, the wife of singer-dancer Gary Valenciano. She revealed on Instagram that she, her husband, and her sister Maricel were one of Gina's final visitors back in July.
She posted photos and videos of their final visit which she believed was such a "blessing" for them.
"One day in July, we decided to pay her a visit (which she willingly obliged) as arranged by my sister Maricel & Susan Afan of the ABSCBN foundation & it was such a blessing!" she wrote on her post. "These videos were the last we had of her before our last visit on Saturday."
The post showed Lopez showing the Valenciano couple around her house and giving them a warm goodbye before they left.
It was also in that visit where Garg Valenciano sang for the late secretary. He dedicated his song "Could You Be Messiah?" to Gina who was battling with cancer, at the time.
"As some of you may know, I am having health challenges which I have found a blessing. So yesterday morning, I was was blessed to have a visit from Gary, his wife Angeli, and the sister of Maricel who is also a very beautiful person," Gina posted on Facebook last July. "This is Gary singing to me... He is suuuuuch a beautiful person. Like such a beautiful person!!!! It's amazing how he hasn't been pulled off center by being in showbiz. He continues to be authentic. It helps that he is surrounded by smilarly authentic people... Anyway enjoy! <3"
You will be remembered, Ms. Gina! Thank you for the impact you have left in this world!
