Last April 15, pormal nang ini-launch ang Vivamax Middle East. Kaya may access na ang more than two million OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) na naka-base doon sa vast library ng Viva ng Pinoy entertainment content (films, TV series, documentaries, music specials, and genre-bending exclusives.)
Ang Tililing ni Darryl Yap ang pang-opening salvo ng Vivamax Middle East, followed by “Miracle in Cell No. 7”, “Miss Granny”, “Just a Stranger”, “Unforgettable” “On Vodka, Beers and Regrets’, “Jowable” and Mia; plus Vivamax Original Series “Parang Kayo, Pero Hindi.”
In this digital age, may mga similar rules pa kaya that apply to any content na maa-access ng mga residente nila?
“Obviously, our role is to ensure that we’re compliant with the regulating authorities in the region,” panimula ni Mr. Mirza. “And as you know there are restrictions when it comes down to public viewing. So when you would watch a movie in the cinema, it will certainly be edited for certain scenes and that’s done by the National Media Council as an example here in the UAE (United Arab Emirates).
“But when it comes down to streaming platforms, the guidelines that we have in this moment in time...there is actually no restriction because it is private viewing.
“So, I guess it’s quite similar to the concept of drinking...you cannot exactly drink in the street but you can drink in the privacy of your own home. So for streaming platforms, as per the current situation, the guideline is that there doesn’t necessarily has to be any taming or editing of scenes at this moment in time.
“So, for example, if you would watch Game of Thrones, which is a very well-known TV show and you can actually see scenes that, in theory, you would expect to be edited. So that’s the direction that we have at this moment in time. If that changes, obviously we’d have to adapt to that.”
Incidentally, inihalintulad ni Mr. Mirza ang Vivamax, which was only launched last January 2021 sa Pilipinas, sa Disney +, ang streaming app ng Disney, kaysa Netflix. Gaya nga naman ng Disney, Viva has been making films for decades at lahat ng produktong ito—kasama ng mga bagong pino-produce pa—ay inihahain ngayon digitally through the Vivamax streaming platform.
