Mikee Defensor and Kito Noel have opposing views with their parents, lawmakers Mike Defensor and Jaye Noel who voted yes to deny ABS-CBN of their franchise renewal.

AnaKalusugan Party List representative Mike Defensor has been vocal about his opposition over giving a franchise renewal to media giant ABS-CBN. That is not the case for his daughter Mikee, though.

In a recent tweet by the lawmaker's daughter that made rounds on social media, she voiced her support for ABS-CBN and said it is unfair for her that people are saying she shares the same opinion as her dad’s.

"[I] think that to assume that we share the same opinion is unfair," she said. "I've had my own share of arguments and debates in my own home in order to prevent all this from happening."

However, she said that, in the end, she is not the one in Congress and she is not her father.

“My heart goes out to those who are greatly affected by this, most especially the 11,000 workers who have lost their jobs in the middle of a pandemic,” she added.

People applauded Mikee's stand on the issue surrounding the ABS-CBN network, including musician-activist Jim Paredes and lawyer and former House Deputy Speaker Erin Tañada.

The latter recalled how Mikee was embodying her father when he was Vice President of the National Union of Students in the Philippines (NUSP).

"I congratulate you for your courageous stand," Tañada said. "You are the Mike Defensor I knew when we were marching in the streets. I hope you don't change."

The 2019 senatorial candidate added that Mikee was the second child of a lawmaker to voice her support for ABS-CBN.

"She is the second child of a Representative who spoke. The other was a son of Representatives Bem and Jay Noel who were colleagues in the House when I was there," he informed his followers.

The person Tañada was referring to was Kito Noel, son of Malabon Representative Jaye Lacson-Noel.

Kito voiced his dismay over his mother for voting not only against the ABS-CBN franchise renewal, but for the anti-terrorism bill, as well.

“Damn my mom really voted for the terror bill AND for denial of franchise renewal for abs-cbn? Pick a struggle and go you fascist," he said in one tweet.

"She's the Lone District Representative of Malabon City so if u live in Malabon remember not to vote for a fascist,” he said in another tweet.
