“Getting better na po.”

That is what Carla Abellana described when the press asked her about her health.

It could be recalled that the actress battled a tremendous bout with sicknesses during the past year, experiencing the likes of hypothyroidism, liver damage, and asthma.

However, the star of GMA-7’s Love of My Life said that she is now only left with her hypothyroidism to deal with.

“Hopefully, etong February po, mag-start na po kami with the treatment plan for the hypothyroidism kasi nabigyan na po kami ng clearance ng liver doctor,” she said.

The Kapuso star also added that she has been suffering from tachycardia for the past ten years. Tachycardia is a condition that makes the heart beat irregularly, more than 100 beats per minute.

Natakot po ako kasi ang normal liver enzyme profile po is between 0 to 35, mine was at 633,” she spoke of her liver damage that was caused by the supplements she took for hypothyroidism. “So, na-alarm po ako, natakot po ako. Pinag-stop po lahat ng medication, including mga supplements po. [...] So, buti na lang po, after ilang weeks, bumaba na po ’yong liver enzyme profile ko and heto lang January, nag-normalize na po siya.

A TOUGH 2019

Admittedly, 2019 was a tough year for Carla because of her fight with various sicknesses and other personal problems.

“2019 was very difficult,” she openly told the press. “I believe karamihan po talaga [nahirapan] last year. Ang dami ko pong kilala na nahihirapan po talaga noong 2019. Ako po, nahirapan na ako. Kasi, isa na ’yan, ’yong health tapos nagsunod-sunod po. It’s very frustrating. Nakaka-discourage. Ang daming mga nangyari po.

“Pero, okay lang kasi, at least, heto ako ngayon. Oh, thank goodness. Nalampasan ko,” Carla added. “I believe lahat naman tayo, ganoon.

It was her family and long-time boyfriend Tom Rodriguez that helped her get through with the troubles that 2019 had to offer, always staying by her side amidst all her problems.

Talagang hindi nila ako iniwan,” she said. “Tapos, I tried to spend as much time with my family, as possible, kasi parang ‘gamot’ sila. Sila ’yong gamot. [...] Kasi parang family is medicine.

With Tom’s case, he is willing to offer help in any way, according to the actress. If he cannot offer help at the moment, Carla said he is always willing to lend an ear.

Lagi niya kong sinasamahan, hindi niya ko pinapabayaan,” she explained. “Tapos ano lang siya, words of encouragement and then hinahayaan niya lang na iyakan ko siya, parang ganun.

With Carla feeling the lowest last 2019, did it ever occur to her to quit show business?

This was her answer:

Hindi naman po,” she said. “Kumbaga, excited pa nga ako, eh. Kumbaga, sa mga pinagdaanan ko last year, lagi kong sinasabi ‘Sana magtrabaho na ko para hindi ko na masyadong iniisip!’ So, it was something that I very much looked forward to.”

“In fact, sa contract signing ko po sa GMA last year, I was very emotional kasi sabi ko, ‘Sa wakas! Let’s go! Let’s start working!’ para malibang ako, parang ganun. Work was an outlet for me so sabik po ako magtrabaho. Hindi naman po ako nag-worry,” she added.

Love of My Life is GMA’s newest teleserye that will begin airing on Monday, February 3. Apart from Carla, the series will also star Coney Reyes, Rhian Ramos, Mikael Daez, and Tom Rodriguez.
