Actress-writer Bela Padilla, alongside veteran actor Aga Muhlach and child actress Xia Vigor, is set to star in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean family melodrama film Miracle in Cell No.7.
The said film is the fourth best-selling film ever in South Korea and it is among the first four selected entries to the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
During the two-day Viva Convention held last weekend, Pikapika was able to interview Bela about her abovementioned upcoming project with Aga. And she said she’s beyond excited for what’s in store for them.
“I’m excited and feeling ko naman lahat ng babae sa showbiz ’yon ’yong pangarap so salamat...salamat po,” said Bela as she fangirled over Aga for a moment.
The 28-year-old actress also mentioned that she had already met the actor during the film’s look test.
“Opo sa look test...exciting pinapanood ko siya kahit ’yong mga eksena na siya lang…” Bela narrated. “After ko mag make-up lumabas na ako pinapanood ko siya kasi gusto ko makita kung ano or kumbaga who I’m gonna work with or what I’m gonna deal with pagdating sa set po.”
Bela also revealed that she considers Miracle in Cell No.7 as a very special project that she wants to change her look and channel a different Bela on set.
“Hindi pa po ako nag-fi-first tape pinapatapos po muna nila sa akin ’yong Sino Ang May Sala,” Bela went on saying. “Kasi I want to change my look kasi one year nang ganito ’yong itsura ko, ’yong buhok ko...I want to look different for this movie and special tong movie para sa akin kasi this is the first time I’m working with Sir Aga Muhlach so I want to give more than 100 percent.”
Bela added that she wanted to “own” the project, just like what Sarah Geronimo did in the Korean film Miss Granny which was released in the silverscreen last year.
“Sa totoo lang sobrang daming beses ko na po napanood ’yong Korean [movie] na Miracle in Cell no. 7 and sobrang fan ako pati ni Park Shin Hye.” the actress gushed. “So..what I can say since it’s gonna be directed by Nuel Naval...lalagyan nila ng Filipino flavor katulad ng nangyari sa Miss Granny and Sarah [Geronimo] made Miss Granny her own. So I hope I will be able to do that also. Gusto ko sana ’yon nga may Filipino flavor.”
But even before Bela accepted to star in the said project, she had to replace singer-actress Nadine Lustre, who backed out from the film because she said she has to take her much needed-rest after doing two consecutive films this year: Ulan and Indak (the latter is currently showing in cinemas).
Bela said she doesn’t mind at all that she’s only the second choice. And she’s confident that Nadine feels satisfied about her taking on the role.
“I haven’t seen Nadine [Lustre] yet pero napanood ko ’yong interview niya sa TWBA (Tonight With Boy Abunda),” said Bela. “And I’m happy that she’s happy na I’m taking the role. Obviously, I want to work with her din someday pero right now I’m happy to take it off her hands.”
She then explained that she didn’t audition for the particular role and she just received a phone call from her Boss Vincent [del Rosario of Viva Films] asking her if she wanted to try Miracle in Cell No.7.
And she said that she’s more than willing to do it not only because it’s popular and a good film but she’s also a K-Drama fan herself.
“Excited, like I said sobrang fan ako ng K-Drama and Korean movies. Ibang-iba din sila magsulat and umarte gusto ko malaman or makita kung ano ’yong gagawin namin dito na kakaiba naman,” Bela ended.
