Barbie Almalbis reflects on her husband Martin Honasan's COVID-19 battle!

Last Saturday, January 23, OPM singer-songwriter Barbie Almalbis took to Instagram to share how her husband, visual artist Martin Honasan, went through with his COVID-19 diagnosis.

She shared a photo of herself wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), which she said was her “24/7 ootw (outfit of the week)” while taking care of her husband at the St. Luke’s Medical Center - Global City in Taguig.

Barbie added that up to the day she made the post, both of them were still unsure how Martin got the virus, guessing that it might be from one of their recent hospital visits or someone near them who was also positive with COVID-19 but was asymptomatic.

“I’m also writing to share our testimony,” she said. “This was one of the hardest months we’ve ever had, a faith-stretching season that brought us to our knees many times, but God has remained faithful to sustain us and give us peace through it all.”

She went on narrating how Martin was reading a verse from 2 Chronicles from the Bible, which is about facing a calamity with no fear as the Lord will be by their side.

“These became the verses we held on to as we prayed especially on the most challenging days,” she said.

Barbie, then, recounted how Martin had difficulty in breathing while feeling “fuzzy and confused” because of his nine-day fever and dehydration, prompting him to tell it to their nurse at the time.

“Don’t worry, Sir Martin. God is with you,” Barbie recalled the nurse telling her husband.

“She didn’t know it, but that moment gave Martin a surge of hope and peace, assured that God had been with us every moment, as He promised. He began to recover soon after, and we were able to go home after a few days,” she added.

Barbie began to conclude her post by showering words of gratitude to the people who helped and supported Martin with his hard-fought journey battling COVID-19, beginning with the doctors and nurses.

“One of things that truly made an impact on us were the nurses and doctors who helped our family with such excellence, compassion, and love,” she said. “Thank you, Nurse Rose, Lindon, Micho, Aia, Alen, Darwin, Dra. Villavicencio, Dr. Dennis, Dr. Abad-Santos, Dr. Ng, and all the wonderful nurses and doctors at St. Luke’s, BGC.”

She also thanked their family and friends for the continued prayers and support.

“We are grateful to our dear family and friends who prayed with us, supported us, and encouraged us everyday. Love you all so much!” she expressed.

Lastly, she thanked God for making His presence known during Martin’s COVID-19 battle.

“We praise God for all He has done, and for making himself known to us even more through this,” she concluded.

Barbie is best known for her work as the lead singer of bands Hungry Young Poets and Barbie’s Cradle and for pursuing a solo career after in 2005, releasing albums such as “Barbie: The Singles” and “Parade” to name a few.

Martin is the son of former senator Gringo Honasan.

Barbie and Martin tied the knot last June 2006 and have two children named Stina and Liam.
