A three-part docuseries about the dark and twisted family history of Hollywood actor Armie Hammer will debut on September 2nd on Discovery+.
The project is produced by the actor's aunt, Casey Hammer and the docuseries investigates the accusations of sexual abuse against the actor and some other explosive revelations.
In March 2021, a woman named Effie accused Armie Hammer of violent rape and physical abuse during their on-and-off four-year relationship from 2016 to 2020.
“On April 24, 2017, Armie Hammer violently raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly slapped my head against a wall, bruising my face. He also committed other acts of violence against me to which I did not consent. I thought that he was going to kill me," Effie said in a virtual conference with her attorney, Gloria Allred.
Effie adds that Hammer would beat her feet so they would hurt with every step she took: "I tried to get away, but he wouldn’t let me be. He then left with no concern for my well-being. I was completely in shock."
Hammer's lawyer Andrew Brettler denied Effie's rape allegation in a statement previously provided to PEOPLE, describing her relationship with Hammer as "completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory."
Soon, other alleged victims of Hammer came forward to reveal disgusting information about the actor's troubling abuse which includes alleged texts and voicemails from Armie, talking about fantasies of cannibalism and more.
Alleged victim Julia Morrison reads a text she claims is from Armie that says: “I have a fantasy about having someone prove their love and devotion and tying them up in a public place at night and making their body free use.”
He also allegedly told one woman in a voice message: "My bet was going to involve showing up at your place and completely tying you up and incapacitating you and being able to do whatever I wanted to every single hole in your body until I was done with you.”
Another supposed text or DM reads: "100% a cannibal,” and then there is a handwritten note that reads, “I am going to bite the f**k out of you.”
Hammer has denied allegations and no charges have been filed.
According to Jason Sarlanis, President of Crime and Investigative Content, Linear and Streaming said in a statement: “The accusations of rape and abuse brought against Armie Hammer in the last few years are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Hammer family. With House of Hammer, we witness truly disturbing details and sinister secrets that money and power couldn't hide forever. This documentary provides an important platform for the incredibly courageous women who came forward to share their stories, and we hope their courage inspires others to continue meaningful conversations around abuse in our society."
The allegations against Hammer involved bondage, cannibalism fantasies, rape accusations, and more. Soon after, the actor was dropped from several film projects, and would probably never work in Hollywood again.
Discovery+ describes House of Hammer as follows: "Debauchery. Deceit. Abuse. Addiction. Corruption. Over the course of five generations, the men in the Hammer family have more secrets and scandals than any vault can contain. Armie Hammer's alleged crimes are only the tip of the iceberg. Through a trove of archive and interviews from survivors and family members, the dark and twisted secrets of the Hammer family come to light. Behind the money and power lies a dysfunctional dynasty with its male characters exhibiting all the devastating consequences of privilege gone wild."
Back in July, PEOPLE reported that Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. was personally helping Hammer to get back on his feet when he turned alcoholic after losing his career and his wife, Elizabeth Chambers, and his children: Gracey (7) and Douglas (5).
Downey entered Hammer at the Guest House Treatment Center in Silver Springs, Florida. It is a rehab facility for clients with high-stress or high-visibility lifestyles such as business executives, politicians and entertainment professionals.
Downey paid for the troubled actor's six-month stay in the said facility,
After Hammer was involved in a sex scandal, Elizabeth left him and took their children to the Cayman Islands. Hammer followed his estranged wife and worked as a timeshare salesman in a resort to support his family.
According to Variety, Hammer was bankrupt: "Hammer was working at a cubicle. The reality is he’s totally broke, and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.”
Hammer was last seen in the movie, Death On The Nile. But he wasn't allowed to promote the film because of his involvement in a sex scandal.
Downey is also helping out Hammer's wife by letting her and the kids stay in one of his unoccupied houses in Los Angeles. Elizabeth wants to start fresh without Hammer.
According to Us Weekly: “Elizabeth and Armie have been working together on their co-parenting relationship. They are not back together.
Elizabeth married Hammer in 2010 and ended their marriage in 2020. She first filed for divorce from Hammer in July 2020, citing irreconcilable differences.
Elizabeth posted a statement on Instagram addressing previous abuse allegations against her estranged husband.
"For weeks, I've been trying to process everything that has transpired. I am shocked, heartbroken, and devastated. Heartbreak aside, I am listening, and will continue to listen and educate myself on these delicate matters. I didn't realize how much I didn't know.
"I support any victim of assault or abuse and urge anyone who has experienced this pain to seek the help she or he needs to heal. At this time, I will not be commenting further on this matter.
"My sole focus and attention will continue to be on our children, on my work and on healing during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for all of the love and support, and thank you in advance for your continued kindness, respect, and consideration for our children and me as we find ways to move forward."
Armie Hammer was born Armand Douglas Hammer on August 28, 1986 in Santa Monica, California. A son of businessman Michael Armand Hammer and a great-grandson of the oil tycoon Armand Hammer.
Hammer began his acting career with guest appearances in several television series. Hammer's first leading role was as Billy Graham in the 2008 film Billy: The Early Years, and he gained wider recognition for his portrayal of the twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in David Fincher's The Social Network in 2010.
Hammer also appeared in the films J. Edgar, The Lone Ranger, Mirror Mirror, The Birth of a Nation, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Nocturnal Animals, Call Me by Your Name, Wounds and On the Basis of Sex. On Broadway, he starred in a production of Straight White Men in 2018.
On television, he came out in episodes of Veronica Mars, Arrested Development, Desperate Housewives, Gossip Girl, and Reaper.
In 2011, Hammer was arrested at a United States Border Patrol checkpoint in West Texas after marijuana was discovered in his car. El Paso's attorney declined to prosecute the case, as the amount of marijuana Hammer had wouldn’t amount to a misdemeanor.
In 2013, Hammer said the arrest "was a misunderstanding of laws and interstate laws versus state laws and apparently federal laws supersede state laws."
