The television and movie industry is grieving the loss of veteran actresss Alice Buenaflor Lake, popularly known as Anita Linda, who passed away this morning, June 10. She was 95 years old— just five years younger than her beloved Philippine Cinema, which culminated its 100th anniversary last September 2019.
Anita's daughter Francesca Legaspi told the Philippine Star that the great actress has joined her Creator this morning after “(she had) difficulty of breathing.”
Director Adolfo Alix Jr., one of the directors who had the privilege of working with the legendary actress in such films as Adela (2008) and Presa (2010), also confirmed the sad news on his Facebook account, where he posted his photo with the veteran actress.
“This is a very sad day for me," the director shared on Facebook. “I am trembling as I am gathering my thoughts... She is like my Lola and part of my family.
“The great Anita Linda has passed away this morning at 6:15 AM at 95. Prayers for her soul.”
The late actress was discovered at an early age by film and stage director Lamberto Avellana, who gave her the screen name Anita Linda.
After serving the film industry for several decades, she is equally rewarded with multiple awards and recognition by various award-giving bodies such as FAMAS and Gawad Urian.
Anita's last film Circa—which was also directed by Adolf and starred in by the late actor-director Eddie Garcia and Kapamilya actor Enchong Dee—was an official entry to the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019.
Miss Anita Linda is survived by her children Francesca Legaspi and Fred Osburn.
