"Metikuloso. Gusto nya perfect 'yong shots." - Ai Ai delas Alas

Comedy Concert Queen Ai Ai delas Alas is working with Ang Probinsyano lead star Coco Martin for the first time and he’s not just her co-actor but her producer/director as well!

The said project is for Coco’s Metro Manila Film Festival 2019 official entry, 3pol Trobol: Huli Ka Balbon.

During her renewal contract signing with Hobe QuickCook Noodles yesterday, Ai-Ai shared some insights as to how it is to work with the country’s top actor at the moment.

And she said that though Coco is always happy and hyper on the set, he is also a perfectionist as a director.

"Hyper 'yon e,” laughed Ai Ai. “Gusto n’ya mabilis. Gusto n'ya maaga [mag-umpisa], tapos maaga din natatapos... para maaga din nakakapagpahinga ang mga artista.”

Did Coco need to feel his way through her, she being more senior than him in the industry?

"Perfectionist 'yon," Ai Ai noted.  "Ako binibigay ko 'yong tiwala ko sa kanya as a director. At syempre nakikisama ako na kung ano’ng gusto nya, yon ang gagawin ko. And bihira lang naman nya ako i-correct.”

Ai Ai, who currently sits as panel member of the singing competition The Clash on GMA-7, recalled two instances when Coco asked her for retakes.

"Siguro mga dalawang beses lang," the actress revealed. “Itini-take two nya lang na, ‘Mommy, mas maganda 'to,' sasabihin nya. Sabi ko, 'Ah sige, sige. Ulitin natin. Kasi parang hindi ako masyadong magaling sa dun sa part na 'yon.’”

She also revealed that, in her observation, Coco is a bit tensed lately, which is understandable as he is juggling both the film shoots and his teleserye tapings (which he also helms).

"Stressed!" Ai Ai described the Kapamilya prime actor. “Oo, pero kinakaya naman nya. Natatawa nga s'ya sa sarili n'ya minsan eh. Sabi hindi n'ya na daw n'ya naaalagaan ang histura nya sa pelikula. Medyo oily daw sya do’n sa isang part."

However, Coco remains to be a "cool" movie director.

"Ay oo," the mainstay of Sunday PinaSaya said.  "Metikuloso. Gusto nya perfect 'yong shots. Hindi naman s’ya demanding. Cool lang. Nasa tama lang."

Ai-Ai added that she’s honored that Coco chose her to be part of his movie and that she has no qualms with whatever billing he gives her.

"Basta mommy-mommy nya lang ako. Tapos super niyayakap nya ako," Ai Ai said about their on-cam/off-cam moments. “At saka ginawan nya talaga ako ng moment (sa pelikula)."

It has been three years since her last MMFF project and she’s just thankful to be part of this year’s festivity.

"Na-miss ko (mapasali sa MMFF)," Ai Ai said. "Natuwa nga ako no'ng kinuha nya ako. Sabi ko 'Baby boy, thank you ah. Kinuha mo ko sa Metro Manila Film Fest. Excited ako.

"Sabi nya, ‘Mommy, mas thank you kasi nagtiwala ka sa 'kin.’”

Ai Ai will play Coco Martin's mother in the movie which also includes the award-winning actress Jennylyn Mercado.
