Jason Paul Laxamana, best known for directing blockbuster hits such as 100 Tula Para Kay Stella and Just A Stranger, can now add comic book writer to his list of accolades as his first comic book ANITU can now be availed nationwide.

It was last May 26 when the director-screenwriter posted on Instagram about his aspirations for the comic book's launching, which was to be introduced in a big comic book festival. However, it had to be halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I imagined it this way: we're gonna soft-launch our comic book #ANITU at a comics festival, then hold a grander launch to promote the first issue, then have copies available in commercial bookstores for people to buy," he revealed.

However, since quarantine protocols call for restrictions on mass gatherings, plans for ANITU had to be delayed, including the printing, forcing the comic book's production and pre-order deliveries to be delayed.

Laxamana, then, went on talking how being a comic book writer has been a childhood dream of his, looking up to the likes of Stan Lee, Mars Ravelo, and Francisco Coching. However, what made him more invested to pursue it was his advocacy.

"Making me more invested is the fact that it's also part of my advocacy---to contribute in the promotion of Kapampangan and Philippine culture in general to the culturally-confused youth of this very interesting country," he said.

With the troubles of the pandemic having effects on his dreams, the director did not feel disheartened, saying his dream was only "delayed, not stopped."

Two days before his Instagram post, he saw the light at the end of the tunnel when people who pre-ordered his book started getting copies during quarantine.

"Seeing people physically get a hold of something we worked hard for and dreamed hard for resurrects whatever it is that died inside of me during this pandemic," Laxamana said.
