Desperation hits when a mother of two loses her son in a tragedy. She travels to Thailand with her daughter in hopes of bringing her deceased child back to life through the help of a statue from Thai folk religion.
The Viva Films horror Kuman Thong, written and directed by Xian Lim, stars Cindy Miranda, who plays Clara. She ventures into Thailand with her daughter Katie (Althea Ruedas) to get the approval of Namfon (Jariya Therakaosal), the mother of her fiancé Sai Chon (Max Nattapol).
However, still grieving from the loss of her son Isaac (Emman Esquivel), she is pushed to get a Kuman Thong statue, also known as a Black Magic Baby, from local shamans. The statue is said to bring luck and fortune to its owner if properly revered.
Because of that, Clara insists on keeping the Kuman Thong in hopes of bringing Isaac back to life. Yet, things take a horrifying turn with the statue in her possession when bad things begin to happen to her, Katie, Namfon, and Sai Chon.
Kuman Thong was shot entirely in Thailand. This horror movie is Xian’s third film as director after his Cinemalaya 2019 movie Tabon starring Christopher Roxas and the 2023 comedy film Hello, Universe! starring Janno Gibbs.
Apart from the aforementioned projects, Xian also directed an episode of the GMA drama anthology series Wish Ko Lang and the music video for the song “Tawid Dagat” by Glaiza de Castro.
Kuman Thong premieres in 113 local cinemas today, July 3. The movie will be coming soon in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
