“Salakab” is a basket-like entrapping device made of split bamboo that's used by fishermen to catch a fish. It is aptly used as the title of an upcoming Vivamax film by cult director Roman Perez, Jr. revolving around a fisherman who takes the woman he loves by force, hoping to capture her heart.
Arthur (Benz Sangalang) and Lena (Angeli Khang) grew up together in the province. They were inseparable all the way through high school. Everyone who knows them is rooting for them to eventually end up together. But, ambitious Lena goes to Manila to pursue her college education--all financed by Arthur.
Arthur is an orphan and Lena is all he’s got. He is prepared to work hard for her—her family included—believing that all his sacrifices will pay off in the end. And that is Lena returning to marry him.
Four years later, Lena comes back, indeed. But, not for him. Lena has a boyfriend in Manila, and they are planning to get married, work abroad, and build a family there. Upon learning all this, Arthur is consumed with jealousy and fury. Thus, by hook or by crook, he will make her his.
See how Arthur fights for Lena’s love on a deserted island as Lena’s boyfriend, Onjie (Jomari Angeles) searches for her. Trapped by Arthur, yet pampered by him at the same time, how would Lena respond to him? Can she manage to leave him or love him?
Salakab, which also stars newbies Sahara Bernales and Horace Mendoza, premieres on Vivamax this Friday, November 17, 2023.
