The award-winning drama anthology Magpakailanman treats viewers to heartwarming stories and powerful portrayals about the unconditional love of mothers.
Headlining the show’s anniversary episode on November 30 is seasoned actress and comedian Candy Pangilinan. Comedy Concert Queen Ai-Ai Delas Alas, on the other hand, is set to deliver hope and inspiration in a two-part Christmas special on December 7 and 14.
For Magpakailanman’s 22nd anniversary presentation, Candy showcases her personal story in “My Very Special Son.” She unfolds her struggles in carrying a child after being abandoned by her husband and how she has dealt with postpartum depression after giving birth to Quentin, who was diagnosed with ADHD.
Candy also reveals how she raises Quentin despite his mental and physical conditions, and how she sets up Quentin’s own graduation ceremonies when a teacher refused to include him in the school rites.
This touching mother-and-son bond continues until Quentin becomes an adult. They host a social media page, where people follow their adventures despite and because of Quentin’s amusing mood changes and tantrums.
Joining Candy in the episode are Sandy Andolong, Shyr Valdez, Euwenn Mikaell, and Will Ashley. Following this poignant story is a two-part special titled “Adventures of Nanay Rider: The Theresa Mayuga Story.” Ai-Ai plays the role of Theresa, together with Leandro Baldemor, Kelvin Miranda, and Lui Manansala.
Theresa sacrifices her role as the family’s breadwinner when she marries her great love Danny, who she later on discovers is having an affair with other women. Despite getting cheated on,
she chooses to forgive him. Until one day, Danny gets another woman pregnant, and Theresa painfully accepts her husband’s decision to separate. To be able to raise her son, Theresa courageously breaks gender barriers and works as a rider. She then faces perils, bullying, and discrimination from toxic stereotypes, but this does not stop her from working hard for her loved ones.
These two highly-anticipated stories are under the helm of director Mark Reyes.
